Luke loves playing Monopoly. Needless to say, this Star Wars version is his favorite. He can do change from up to about $200 in his head. After that, he can still do it, he just needs a piece of paper. He thinks we're playing a game, and I know we're sneaking in math and reading. Win win! And he did win; he beat me fair and square.

If you had told me when we first got Cleo that *this* would ever happen, I'd have said you were out of your mind. These two pretty much hate each other. After many years, they can now exist in the same room within a few feet of each other. Not sure how this happened today, and I had to take a picture to prove it to my husband!

2012-07-29

Technically, this is a make up picture, in that it was actually taken on 7/30. However, I did take nearly this same photo on 7/29. I can't show it to you, though, because somehow, the data card that I was using got corrupted and the photo was lost. I didn't lose much, since I had downloaded earlier on 7/29, but I was still frustrated. Anyway, the Olympics have begun. Yay!

Not so different from the last picture, really, but I wanted to document my progress before the start of the Olympics. (She does now have hands, though, and the ribbon on the edge of her dress is finished since last time.) My stitching group is having a bit of a contest to see who can stitch the most during the length of the games. I'm usually doing too much watching to get much stitching done, but I'll give it a try.

Today's summer experiment: which airplane model flies farthest. With six throws each, our data says it is a toss up between the one on the far left and the one on the far right (which came from Pinterest, of course). Other than the straw plane, all of these came from my ancient grade school memories. Oh yeah, mommy has skills! LOL

We were so full from Japanese last night that no one wanted any cake! So we did the candles, singing, and indulging tonight instead. Note the different colored flames. Not quite as obvious as I hoped, but still pretty neat. I bought them for Luke's birthday last year and just used the rest for myself (a cluster of 3 on one side and 6 on the other). The sixth candle is hidden behind the yellow candle in front.

DH and Luke took me to our favorite Japanese restaurant for my birthday.

But in spite of yesterday's polish collection review, I couldn't help but pick up a few more today. This brand only runs $1.99 per bottle normally, and Walgreens had them on sale for $0.99 each, so I grabbed a few as a small birthday gift to myself.

2012-07-22

I was sorting my nail polish collection and decided to photograph it today. Keep in mind, I've been collecting for many years (several of these are older than Luke!), but at least 1/3 to 1/2 are new in the last year or so. EEK!

2012-07-21

I *finally* hung something on the walls. Until Luke's birthday last year (just shy of living here 2 years), I had nothing. I hung up a single collage photo frame for his party, then again, nothing. Doing some final cleaning before Melissa and Ursula came, I found where I had stashed some of my framed art and photos, so I hung up a couple more. Can't believe that took nearly 3 years!

And here we are at the Southeastern Railway Museum. It was hot as blue blazes (mostly outside, under metal canopies, or inside an non-air conditioned metal warehouse. In July! Would definitely recommend it as a cool weather activity. But it was still great fun to go in all the different trains and train cars (and a few locomotives, plus a MARTA bus!).

More from our Atlanta staycation, though this was actually at the Tellus Museum in Cartersville, about an hour away. Nice place, lots of cool stuff!

Luke's first trip to Medieval Times. I only found out recently that they had one in the Atlanta area. And the red and yellow knight won!! We decided to do a "staycation" this year instead of going away somewhere. Stay tuned for more!

Took Luke to the movie theater today (well, my parents did; DH and I went to see Spider-Man). This is actually his second film of the summer! And apparently, it was too sunny to look right at the camera.

My friend Melissa and her daughter Ursula came to visit today. I've known Melissa for at least 10 years now, probably more like 12. We met through an online community, but I have been lucky enough to actually get to meet/see her a few times IRL (in real life).

This was our "experiment" of the day: Balloon Ping-Pong. The original pin from Pinterest used paint stirrers, which I didn't have, so I used paper towel tubes instead. Now that we've used them, I do think they paint stirrers would be better, but Luke still had a blast with these.

Luke is still always thrilled when a kitty comes to sit with him, Tigger in particular. I think the look on his face says it all.

Since I already had all of my stitching stuff out, I thought I would show off my scissor fobs. I actually have 2-3 other pair of scissors that aren't shown here (they're naked! LOL must make more fobs). I made the strawberry and acorn myself. I bought the beads and made the design for the top one, but my friend Shalini actually put it together for me. The center one was made by my friend Ginny, and the bottom one was made by my friend Annette. They all make me happy just looking at them!

Thought you might want to see the progress I've made. The picture on the left is the same one I posted on 6/30. Nine days later, and I've nearly finished the blue part of her dress! I haven't stitched that much in the past 5 years combined, I don't think. And yes, my hands, arms, and shoulders hurt to prove it!

This is the scene I was confronted with when I entered our bathroom this evening. This is *such* a Luke thing to do!! It took me forever to find the right angle for this picture to accurately convey what I was seeing. (And please forgive the very old, scratched, and stained sink basin.)

This was a (requested) gift a few years ago. It is a tote bag featuring my favorite ever Disney character: Maleficent, from Sleeping Beauty. I hate that it is red instead of purple like her usual color scheme, but I still love my bag!

2012-07-02

My July 4th manicure. I painted each nail with the color (blue or red), then used scotch tape to cover the color and expose the wedge shape, which I then painted silver. I think it looks pretty spiffy for my first time using that technique!

It's easy to tell this basket has clean clothes in it. If they were dirty, Tigger wouldn't be laying on them!
