I was trying to gather up his uniform for Luke to go to Cub Scouts tonight, but I couldn't find his scarf. When I went back in his room to look a little more carefully, I saw this. I think he likes Cub Scouts, what do you think?

Wow, she hasn't sat in my lap in quite a while. I was afraid she had decided she was "too grown up" for it.

Some up-lit cattails that Luke and I passed when walking from the secondary parking lot to his elementary school this morning.

I finally got the patches sewn on Luke's Cub Scout shirt. I love our Atlanta Area Council patch; I think it is absolutely beautiful.

As I was leaving Target, the in-house Starbucks was giving away free cookies. Well, if you insist!

You get a good view of the overhead highway signs from the North Avenue exit. I know they're big (they have to be so the cars far below can read them), but whenever I get close, I'm still amazed at just *how* big they are. This photo doesn't even capture it very well. Most of the capital letters are about a foot tall (about 30 cm). Note: I was completely stopped at a stop light when I took this.

Seriously, Cracker Barrel? It is September, and mid-September at that!! Can we at least make it to October before you start cramming Christmas down our throats?

Hmm, my first attempt at peanut butter and jelly "sushi." I'm starting to practice some recipes for Luke's birthday party. Don't think this one will make the cut. It's way too fiddly, there's not much yield for the amount of effort, and they just aren't as pretty as I hoped.

We visited the Atlanta Boy Scout Area Council Headquarters today to get Luke's first Cub Scout uniform. I think it would be great to repeat this picture every year!

The patterned glass in the top decorative window of our front door caught my attention this afternoon.

The things we do for our children. After yesterday's fall, the dentist told us not to let Luke bite into anything for the next week. Everything has to be bite size so he can just pop it in his mouth and chew with only his back teeth. So I broke his poptart into bite sized pieces this morning.

Not the best day at school. Luke fell while running downhill and landed face first on the concrete sidewalk at the bottom. It's hard to see in the picture, but he has quite a goose egg developing above his eyebrow. His lip is so swollen that it is hard for him to talk, and he hit his front teeth when he feel, so we had to go to the dentist (who thinks he will be fine).

We showed Luke The Secret of NIMH for the first time today. He wasn't quite sure what to make of it, but he seemed to enjoy it. The real test will be if he asks to watch it again.

Sinful Colors Zincing of You from their new metallics line. I love them all! For nail polish, this is about as close to a "neutral" as I get.

This is Star's Spot (sort of like Sheldon's Spot). Any time the basement is open, she'll run downstairs, investigate a bit, then come back up and sit here.

Um, I think we got a little carried away over Labor Day. (In my defense, Mom had been squirreling most of these away 1-2 at a time for the last six weeks or so.)

2012-09-02
We were looking through family photos over Labor Day weekend, some of them over 100 years old. This is a negative that was made from a print that we no longer have; thank goodness we have the negative! I took a photo of the negative, then inverted it, so we could see what it should look like. We believe this is my great-great-grandmother (my father's mother's father's mother). My brother thinks I look like her (and I do see his point a bit, especially when I was younger).
