Really, August? REALLY??!!!! You really thought, "hey, I know *just* what Erin needs to cap off her *wonderful* month: a kidney stone!" Thanks for nothing. At least I have Aragorn to keep me company.

This is probably the last picture I will ever take of Bengal. We will take him to the vet tomorrow and say goodbye forever. My heart is breaking.

The 21st Century would like to welcome the Gaston family to the party! DH is on a business trip, so we tried Skype for the first time tonight. (Yes, I know.)

This was my husband's card to his mother for Mother's Day. Not only does it make me laugh, because it describes him perfectly and is a good reflection of the kind of humor his family enjoys, he also designs bridges for a living. He could not have found a more perfect card for her!

Had to go to the ER today. I fell down some stairs on the way to my car after work. Nothing broken, just a sprain, but we were there for over 5 hours. No reason not to get homework done, though!

This is my uncle with my cousin's daughter L. Today was Miss L's first birthday! We had a great time at her party, seeing several folks I haven't seen in years. Some, like my other cousin S, I hadn't seen in 5 years or more. She's had two more kids since then! We really need to do better about that.

We saw Blue Man Group at The Fox Theatre today. It was a new experience for all of us, and we really enjoyed it! It was also our first time taking Luke to The Fox (though not his first visit; he went last year with his school).

I'm sure there is a rule in photography that a truly good picture should not require context. Sadly, this one does. The Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting took place today. Seeing these socks that my son left in my bathroom this evening just made me start bawling, so grateful that he was home to leave them there, and so very sorry for the families whose children will never again leave dirty socks where they shouldn't. You can read more of my thoughts on Sandy Hook here on my regular blog.

And the Summer Olympic flame has been extinguished for another four years. Thank you, London, for some great games!

We were so full from Japanese last night that no one wanted any cake! So we did the candles, singing, and indulging tonight instead. Note the different colored flames. Not quite as obvious as I hoped, but still pretty neat. I bought them for Luke's birthday last year and just used the rest for myself (a cluster of 3 on one side and 6 on the other). The sixth candle is hidden behind the yellow candle in front.

And here we are at the Southeastern Railway Museum. It was hot as blue blazes (mostly outside, under metal canopies, or inside an non-air conditioned metal warehouse. In July! Would definitely recommend it as a cool weather activity. But it was still great fun to go in all the different trains and train cars (and a few locomotives, plus a MARTA bus!).
