Ta-da! Aren't they pretty? It really is going fairly quickly (compared to some of the other crafts I do).

Finally starting to make hexagons out of the materials my friends sent me. This is the prep stage, where the individual hexagons are created. Then, we can proceed to actual piecing.

A late birthday gift from a couple of friends who are *convinced* that I should become a quilter. Who am I to argue?

Hey, another finish! I know, two in a month, the world must be ending. This one is small, but it still counts!

So I *may* have started a new piece. This is the fabric I bought while I was away with my friends. Not much, but she's started. That looks like a fairy, right?

I finished a piece while I was gone this weekend, but I didn't get to photograph it until today (too much rain!). I've been working on this piece pretty much since we graduated from college. About time I finished it, don't you think?

I pulled out Midsummer Night's Fairy to put some fresh stitches in her today. If all goes as planned, I'll have her done by the end of the year! Watch this space....

Well, this fabric started out the month completely blank. I guess that's not too bad for one month of progress. It is primarily just two weekends worth of work, with a strand or two thrown in here or there. I'll take it!

My husband is not a reader, so I've been giving him the cliff notes version of the differences between the Lord of the Rings movies and the books. This morning, he asked me if Legolas and Gimli were counting yet. I sort of rolled my eyes, and he said that he was joking. We both agreed that counting slain enemies was likely put in just for the movie. Then during lunch, I read the above paragraph and nearly burst out laughing. I had to snap a picture of it and send it to DH!

Moving right along through Lord of the Rings. I finished Fellowship and have now proceeded to The Two Towers. The differences between the books and the movie are interesting! Sometimes I prefer the book, but honestly, I sometimes prefer Peter Jackson's take on things.

I did finally finish The Hobbit and moved on to The Lord of the Rings. When I started it, I remembered why I never got very far. I don't think I ever made it past the prologue. I wish someone had told me that the rest of the book is *much* better than the prologue! Once I finally got through it and kept reading, things improved dramatically. I'm quite enjoying it now, though it is quite different from the movie(s).

Technically, this is a make up picture, in that it was actually taken on 7/30. However, I did take nearly this same photo on 7/29. I can't show it to you, though, because somehow, the data card that I was using got corrupted and the photo was lost. I didn't lose much, since I had downloaded earlier on 7/29, but I was still frustrated. Anyway, the Olympics have begun. Yay!

Took Luke to the movie theater today (well, my parents did; DH and I went to see Spider-Man). This is actually his second film of the summer! And apparently, it was too sunny to look right at the camera.

My current manicure, China Glaze Skyscraper over NYC Skin Tight Denim. Wow, my fingers look rough! Sorry about that.

(Make-Up) Well, I missed another one, so this photo is actually from two days "from now." I've finally decided to read the most recent Outlander novel by my favorite author, Diana Gabaldon. I've had this book for at least a couple of years (at least), but I did not enjoy the previous two novels much, so I'd been dreading reading this one. It was actually very enjoyable, and with all my new "free time," I read it from start to finish in under a week, four days to be precise. That's 800 pages with small type (smaller than a typical hardback). Other than maybe the Harry Potter novels, I don't remember the last time I read a book in less than a week. That was fun! What do I read next?

Finally got around to seeing Titanic at the theater in 3D. I purposely didn't go last week because I knew it would be crazy the week of the 100th anniversary of the sinking. The 3D conversion was surprisingly good.

100 years ago today, the RMS Titanic struck and iceberg on her maiden voyage and sank. I've been fascinated by it since I was a child. (See my post about Titanic on my regular blog.) This is my collection of Titanic books. The bottom shelf holds over 30 books and magazines on Titanic specifically, and another six by the man who found her (but on other topics or ships), Dr. Robert Ballard. The top shelf shows my newest acquisitions, two magazines released this year for the anniversary (in front of some non-Titanic books).

Look what I got in the mail today! It is the last of my pre-ordered birthday gifts. We really really like this show. Hope the book is as fun and funny.
