And while Daddy is away, "the mice" will go play at the movie theater.

Different theater this time. Another of the amazing windows done at our usual theater. These are hand painted. The Katniss one is a flat cardboard cutout, though the painting makes it look quite dimensional. The bird behind her, though, really is dimensional on part of its wings (look just above her head).

Catching a movie in honor of DH's birthday this week. Too bad it didn't live up to the pretty cool posters.

It turned out to be more of a movie week here. Today, we took Luke to see Epic at the movie theater. It was okay to the adults, but he really liked it, which is what matters.

This summer, we are attempting to implement Family Movie Night. Tonight is our first try. Luke absolutely loves popcorn, so when I found these popcorn containers in the dollar bin at Target, I had to get them. Roll film!

My husband knows me so well. I had an unexpected day off today. People thought we would be going out to a nice lunch together. Nope! He knew I would rather snarf down McDonalds while sitting in the car if it meant that we could see two movies at the theater today, which is exactly what we did. Ah, true love, doing something crazy because you know it's what your partner wants. :-)

Finally got to see the new Star Trek movie. Pretty good movie, but I'm not sure I liked it as an addition to/twist of the known Star Trek universe.

My idea of an early Mother's Day present: going to see Iron Man 3! This is another of the great windows at our movie theater, made completely from scratch (not a studio provided kit or something).

I am home from work today with my ankle. Orthopedist appointment isn't until tomorrow, and I can't do much of anything but lay flat on my back on the sofa with my foot elevated above my heart, so I'm watching movies. Decided to try one I hadn't seen before: La Bamba. Everyone looks like a baby! This is Joe Pantoliano, one of the great character actors, though ironically, he is nearly unrecognizable from part to part. He was in The Goonies, Daredevil, Memento, The Matrix, and The Fugitive, just to name a few off the top of my head. But he was SO young here that, without his voice, I would not have known it was him. Wow!

Watched This is Cinerama tonight. Luke had absolutely NO idea what this screen meant. ::sigh:: I'll get him trained eventually.

My husband is not a reader, so I've been giving him the cliff notes version of the differences between the Lord of the Rings movies and the books. This morning, he asked me if Legolas and Gimli were counting yet. I sort of rolled my eyes, and he said that he was joking. We both agreed that counting slain enemies was likely put in just for the movie. Then during lunch, I read the above paragraph and nearly burst out laughing. I had to snap a picture of it and send it to DH!

Settling in to watch the extended edition of Lord of the Rings. The plan is to watch Fellowship tonight, then Two Towers to ring in the new year, then Return of the King on New Year's Day (well, night, after Luke goes to bed). That is assuming I don't get sick; my body seems to be trying quite hard to squeeze in one last cold for the year!

Guess what we did tonight? :-) Yet another amazing window at our theater that my cell phone photo simply does not do justice. You can barely see Smaug up in the top right corner, and Gollum is off to the right out of frame. The map on the back wall is just beautifully done! My full review of the film is here.

We took Luke to see Rise of the Guardians today. He certainly liked it. I still love seeing these windows at our move theater, made by hand by someone local (not using premade items from the studio). I wish there was a way to get a good shot of these windows without all the glare from inside the theater! You can't see Tooth at all (She's a little above and to the right of Jack's head), and you can barely see Pitch on the far left and North on the right.

We're trying to get ready for Skyfall, which was released yesterday. We won't get to see it until Thanksgiving (at the earliest), but we do want to review the two Daniel Craig Bond films. I think we only saw Casino Royale once or twice, and we never did see Quantum of Solace. Hoping to fix that soon!
