We finally made it to the Folkston Funnel this year! Been meaning to take Luke for quite some time. Only one train today, since it was the day after Thanksgiving, so we also had an impromptu picnic. Great afternoon!

And here we are at the Southeastern Railway Museum. It was hot as blue blazes (mostly outside, under metal canopies, or inside an non-air conditioned metal warehouse. In July! Would definitely recommend it as a cool weather activity. But it was still great fun to go in all the different trains and train cars (and a few locomotives, plus a MARTA bus!).

(Make-Up) I actually proceeded to not take a picture for 3 straight days, starting "today." So you get to see more beach pictures. I just love this photo of my mom (not sure how she feels about it! LOL).

I know I usually post a picture of Luke when we go to the beach, but it is so rare to have a picture of my parents in the same frame, especially when one of them doesn't have a camera up to their face. We never did get the kite to behave. This picture also shows how stormy the skies were. Tropical Storm Beryl was on her way in; both the sky and sea were very angry. We could even see whitecaps out near the horizon, which I have never seen at this beach before (been going there since I was a kid, and I lived nearby for 4 years).

Sort of the "official" picture of the afternoon. We try to take one of these every time we go, since we never know when it will be the last one. My grandfather is 92 and in declining health. He has absolutely no short term memory, and even his long term memory is starting to go (he doesn't seem to remember WWII; he was stationed in India). He still knows us, even calling Luke by name, which surprised me.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hope yours was better than mine. I spent all of our large family meal on the floor in the bathroom passing a kidney stone, yet I somehow still managed not to overly resemble death warmed over in this photo.

I love this kind of totally spontaneous shot. Since Luke didn't have swim lessons on Saturday, we decided to take him to play in the pool on Friday, and we invited my parents to come along. Dad also went to Ga Tech, and he had not seen the new athletic center, so we showed them around after swimming. As we got back in the elevator to leave, Dad looked up and noticed the mirror-like surface of the ceiling. "Luke, look up!" He did, and he thought it was the funniest thing ever. I whipped out my camera and said "everyone look up!" and snapped this picture. (Sorry I wasn't looking up; I knew the camera would move and mess up the shot of I did.) Definitely the picture of the day!

May 2009 Mosaic

Click to biggify. Created using Big Huge Labs Mosaic Maker.

Another month in the books. Can you believe I have posted 175 pictures to date (including fill photos)? I sure can't. And, even better, I didn't miss a day this month. Yay! Here are this month's fill photos:

This is our group shot from Luke's first Braves game.

This is Tigger in her "prepped for pill insertion" mummified state. We had to do this to her twice a day for a week. I don't know who was more annoyed about it, her or me (who had to get up with DH at 5 AM every morning to give her the darn thing before he left for work).

The Sidney Lanier Bridge, as taken on a return trip from Waycross. DH, being a structural engineer who designs bridges for a living, always loves going across this thing. We all do, really. This was one of the better shots. It's hard to get a good one of the gray concrete and white cables when it is so overcast!

One of those "happy accident" pictures. I was *trying* to get a close-up macro shot of the shell with the beach fading to blur in the background. However, not being fully dedicated to my craft, I was not willing to lay on my belly and get all wet and sandy so I could see the screen. I held the camera down, clicked, and hoped. Didn't get what I wanted, so I took a few more (and did finally achieve the shot I intended), but upon reviewing the shots when we got back, I saw what a treasure I really had. So glad I listened to the advice of "never delete photos from the camera. Wait for further review on the computer."

Last minute jam session before leaving for home. Luke really wanted to play, but the game only supports two guitarists (well, one guitarist, one bassist). We tried just giving him an empty guitar, but he knew the controller was supposed to be in it. So we put it in but didn't "turn it on." Thankfully he didn't notice, and he was happy to jam with Daddy and Nana.

No, I don't have a picture of pie for Pi Day (3/14, get it?). I actually don't have many pictures from this day, believe it or not. We were all hot and tired, and the park was *packed* with people. Everything had an hour or more wait, one of the main things we wanted to do was closed, and the other one broke down before we had a chance to do it. Not a good day at all, especially for our last day. When we were at the Studios the previous Saturday, I noticed this survey marker on the ground right outside the Backlot Express. I meant to go back and get a picture but forgot. DH reminded me as we returned to the Backlot for lunch on our last day, and I thought it would be fun to show us actually standing on a real officially marked "spot" at Disney.

Luke and DH were feeling much better this morning. Luke was so chipper when he woke up at 7:40, I was expecting him to burst in to song at any moment, so we went ahead with our family excursion to the Georgia Aquarium. My parents were supposed to be here yesterday, but they avoided the house to give L and DH time to recover. They came by the house this morning, and off we went. Luke only lasts about 90 minutes at these sorts of things, but that's okay. He seemed to have fun.

Jammin' Nana! If you had told me before Christmas that my mother would beg to come to our house and play Guitar Hero, I would probably have laughed in your face. Keep in mind, my parents live 5-6 hours away. It is not something I ever could have predicted, but I am so glad we finally have a Wii game that she truly enjoys.
