November 2009 Mosaic

November was a very long and difficult month, and I missed more photos this month than ever before (3, I think). I hope December will be better. Almost there!
I loved the photo of Luke with R2-D2 too much for that not to be the picture of the day on November 2. I also took a bunch of in-concert photos. It was hard to decide, but this one is the clearest about what we were doing there.
Motorcycles and helicopters. I see it, do you?
We had the television pulled away from the wall at the new house, and I noticed the reflection of the glorious fall day. Since it was pulled out to allow the cable guy access to the wall, I'm glad it was still "showing" something pretty.
As I mentioned, I spent all of our family Thanksgiving meal passing a kidney stone. The process makes me sick to my stomach, so even when I was done, *this* was my Thanksgiving meal. Exciting, no? I did get to eat a real Thanksgiving meal later that evening, once I decided I was up to it.
Kitty, the Thinker.

This is Luke's "little piggy" that I accidentally slammed in this very car door (right about there, in fact) yesterday as we were leaving my parents' house. If you look carefully at the base of his thumb, you can see the whitish-purple bruise. Thankfully, it is not broken, just sore.

On the road again, back home to Atlanta. Most of the drive looks either like this, or is just swaths of asphalt through a forest, often pretty, always boring after a while.

WANT!!! They had a whole series of movie-related 3D and 2D art at Bed, Bath, and Beyond today. They would go perfectly in our yet-to-be created home theater in the new basement. This particular piece is one that I had pictured in my mind, and here it sits physically on a store shelf.

Happy Thanksgiving!
Hope yours was better than mine. I spent all of our large family meal on the floor in the bathroom passing a kidney stone, yet I somehow still managed not to overly resemble death warmed over in this photo.

Missed a photo today while driving to my parents' house. This one from yesterday will have to suffice. This is the *beautiful* house warming gift our agent gave us yesterday. I absolutely love it! I can't wait to fill it with pictures and get it hung. Thanks, Jayme!

I guess the stove is now officially christened as mine. It has received it's first sprinkling of Rice Krispies falling out of the pot while stirring them into the melted marshmallows during the making Rice Krispy Treats.

Luke was playing on the floor, then stopped suddenly and started spreading out blankets. "Mommy, we need carpets in here." Great, we've lived here two days, and he's already finding fault with the new house! (Actually, I completely agree with him. Maybe after Thanksgiving I'll have time to acquire some.)

The cupboard may be bare, but we have plenty of kitties in the cabinets. They did NOT like the drill that they cable guy was using. I expected to find Bengal in there, but it was so funny when I realized Tigger was in there, too. Guess they really are related!

Hey, that looks like our furniture in some new house! The move went beautifully and without a hitch.

I was packing up some last minute stuff for the move tomorrow, photographing some things as I removed them from the curio cabinet. This is my wedding garter. No, I didn't throw it! My grandmother made it of scraps of satin and lace from my mom's wedding gown, which Granny also made.

I had to pull out Dad's DSLR to get this low light shot. I loved the way this tree looked silhouetted in the fog against the street light.

And here I thought having our cable cut off twice in two days would be all the drama for today. Nope. When DH went by the new house "just to check on it," he found this in the basement bathroom! That is the ceiling opened up like a trap door, in case you're having trouble orienting yourself in the photo (showerhead on far left center, gold "line" is shower rod). Really not what we needed right now. It must have been caused by the plumbing repairs. That's not going to be a fun fight.

Days when you have to run the air in the middle of the day and the heat on both ends really drive me crazy!

Cleo was determined to get the last little bit of yummy in the bottom of the Krystal box. Instead of sticking her head in, like most cats, she almost always sticks her paw in first, then licks the paw. She does that even for wide open bowls and things. Weird cat!

Is this like grown-up paper dolls? I made paper "footprints" of all the furniture to help me figure out where everything will go when we move.

You are living dangerously, Mr. Spider. I can think of safer places for you than the entrance gate of a preschool playground.

I never did really get the shot/angle I wanted, but she looked so funny sleeping in perfect log formation with this one paw sticking straight up in the air. This was the best of the 3 shots I got before the flash woke her up.

I recently discovered these cookies at Panera Bread. That is a very bad thing. A very bad thing indeed, for my waistline. But wow, are they yummy!! Obviously, I couldn't even stay out of this one on the way home from lunch.

Even after doing this for over 10 months, there are some days, like Monday, that I simply never even think to pick up a camera. No explanation, no real reason, just the way the day went. So here's a cute picture of Tigger from a couple of days ago. She has *clearly* marked this as HER spot. I think she just wants to highlight her cute little white toes. Much more striking on the red lid than the brown carpet, don't you think?

Did you know you can get frostbite in Atlanta in November? Neither did I! Apparently, all you have to do is to brush the back of your finger against the underside of your ice maker while trying to fill a cooler with ice. Yowie, did it hurt! I actually did it yesterday, and it is feeling better today, but it is also redder today, which is what made me think to photograph it.

This is the beautiful fall view from the front door of our new house. I can't wait to finally be moved in!

Bengal alerted me to the presence of this little guy outside our front windows. Just after I snapped this picture, he vanished up the drain pipe!

After the general craziness of the last couple of weeks, and of the last couple of days in particular, I was in need of a little peace. I heard years ago that staring at a candle flame can be relaxing, so I tried it. Believe it or not, it did help me feel calmer, for a moment at least.

I received this text message around 6 PM Wednesday evening. Needless to say, any thought of taking a photo of the day flew right out of my head. I felt the most reasonable make up photo would be a picture of the thing that made me forget. Definitely the most significant moment of my day.

We took Luke to his first ever concert tonight. What did we see? Star Wars in Concert, of course! You can read my full blog post here, but this was really the shot of the night. Concert was awesome, and Luke had a blast, even if he was ready to go about 30 minutes before it ended. Understandable, though, since it didn't even start until after his usual bedtime!

There is very little in this world that I loathe more than having to give Luke nasty antibiotics. I remember the "pink medicine" tasting so good when I was a kid; what happened? The ENT was kind enough to give us a different one that is supposed to be slightly less nasty. There is also a special place in heaven for whoever thought to use a syringe to give kids medicine and whoever invented flavoring additives. I cannot tell you how much better this medicine smells (and likely tastes) with the strawberry flavor in it. Thank you!

Luke really surprised us with this one today. After we paid for lunch, our waitress returned our receipt. Luke picked it up and spontaneously started writing the alphabet. He wrote half of them all by himself, and most of the other half with only verbal instructions. I think we only demonstrated 3 of them (including the G that is circled and marked as DH's). I had just been complaining that he didn't seem to be picking up reading or writing, though he has been close for several months. Mom said "I bet he can do more than he is letting on." Apparently so!
